New To Teaching Assistant Employment Academy

Then you may be interested in our Teaching Assistant Employment Academy.

 

The Teaching Assistant Employment Academy will provide you with the chance to complete and obtain the following Education Authority (EA) recognised qualification:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Supported Teaching and Learning

 

Start Date

  • Registrations onto this academy is now opened
  • Due to start in January 2025

 

Eligibility

Eligible participants for the Teaching Assistants Employment Academy include those who are:

  • Not currently employed as a Teaching Assistant
  • working age resident of Derry City and Strabane District Council
  • have no, or low qualifications
  • have the right to work in the UK
  • are not participating on any other initiative that would exclude them from a DSLMP Programme (time, commitment, etc.)
  • are committed to fully participating in the programme, post programme support and mentoring, post programme evaluation etc.

 

Course overview

Qualification to be obtained: Level 3 Certificate in Supported Teaching and Learning (recognised by the EA as a qualification to be a Teaching Assistant)

Start Date: mid/end of January

Duration: Approximately 9 months

  • You will be required to attend a lesson once a week for the duration of the programme - approximately 20 sessions
  • The weekly lessons require a piece of work to be completed ahead of the next lesson. 

Placement: you must obtain a Teaching Assistant placement within a Primary or Secondary for the duration of the course.  You are to be in your placement a minimum of three weeks before starting the course.

  • As part of the qualification, the programme tutor will attend your placement school to complete a minimum of two observations on you while working within the classroom
