Derry & Strabane Sustainability & Climate Commission
The Council is currently delivering the Net Zero Derry & Strabane project with funding from Innovate UK, running from July 2023 to July 2025. Key partners in this initiative include:
- Sustainable Northern Ireland
- Northern Ireland Environment Link – Climate NI
- Your Climate Strategy
- Place Based Climate Action Network (University of Leeds)
Programme Vision:
“Realize the ambition of a net-zero, climate-resilient City and District by 2045 through transformational systems, including SMART climate action plans supported by place-based insights, collaboration, and capacity building.”
The project has led to the establishment of the Derry & Strabane Sustainability and Climate Commission, the second of its kind in Northern Ireland. This Commission includes 24 organizations and over 35 individual members from various sectors, including government, communities, education, and business, highlighting our commitment to cross-sectoral sustainability and climate action.
We are inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of our Commission members to collaborate in identifying solutions that meet the needs of Derry City and Strabane District, as well as the broader region. To tackle the significant challenges ahead, we need the involvement of our communities, businesses, public sector, and educational institutions. Together, we can find solutions and create a better future for all.
