Keep Warm Packs
The Public Health Agency (PHA) has provided Derry City and Strabane District Council with a number of keep warm packs that can be provided to vulnerable persons within the area to help them keep warm over the winter period. The Council’s Home Safety and Affordable Warmth Teams will provide keep warm packs to vulnerable householders most in need and those who are at a greater risk of fuel poverty and cold related illnesses. The criteria for a Keep Warm Pack includes the following:
- A person with a long-term health problem;
- A person with a disability that makes them less mobile or means they must spend more time at home;
- Anyone over 65 years old;
- A family with dependent children (under the age of 5);
- A pregnant woman;
- A person who is homeless.
The scheme aims to provide support for those most at risk who are unable to adequately heat their homes this winter, including older people, children, and those with chronic illnesses or disabilities made worse in cold weather. This regional scheme has been funded by the PHA, working in partnership with local councils, health and social care trusts, and community networks.
