Council Environmental Health officers working in the Health & Safety team provide support and advice to businesses, employees and members of the public. We enforce health and safety law through inspection of workplaces and the investigation of accidents and complaints.
Consumer Protection
Council Environmental Health Officers aim to protect consumers from the risk of injury or ill health from non-compliant products that are manufactured, supplied or used in the City and District. We also provide advice and support to assist businesses in complying with consumer protection legislation regarding product safety.
Our staff:
Respond to consumer complaints regarding product safety;
Carry out visits to businesses to assess the compliance of products on supply;
Provide advice to those with responsibilities for product safety in the supply chain such as manufacturers, importers and other distributors (e.g. retailers) about relevant legislation;
Sample consumer products as appropriate to assess compliance.
