Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the largest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever and is grounded in a partnership between the community, the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the PSNI.
Neighbourhood Watch was established in Northern Ireland in June 2014 and since then the Department of Justice has accredited over 800 schemes.
The Derry City & Strabane District Council area has 44 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in operation covering approximately 2000 households.
- The Derry City Council area has 29 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in operation covering approximately 949 households.
- The Strabane District Council area has 15 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in operation covering approximately 1100 households.
These schemes not only help to reduce crime and the fear of crime but they also bring communities closer together and make a real contribution to the safety and wellbeing of an area.
The benefits of having a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in your area include reduced home insurance premiums, erection of Neighbourhood Watch signage, being part of a wider support network and being part of a community helping to protect the residents and properties.
If you are interested in setting up a scheme in your area or would like more information on Neighbourhood do not hesitate to contact Policing and Community Safety Partnership on either:
