Consultation on Streets Designated for the Licensing of Stationary Street Traders
Background
Derry City and Strabane District Council is responsible for regulating street trading throughout the district, under the Street Trading (NI) Order 2001. In doing so, we aim to support a vibrant street trading environment that complements premises-based trading, creates opportunities for small business and provides diversity and consumer choice, while at the same time preventing nuisance and inconvenience, protecting public safety and averting crime and disorder.
Under the law, Council can only issue stationary, street trading licences to traders who wish to trade in streets which have been designated for street trading.
The current list of designated streets may be viewed here
Why are we seeking your comments and/or suggestions?
These streets were originally designated in 2002 and since that time there have been significant changes in the social, physical and economic environment. Consequently, some streets that were previously designated may no longer be suitable, while other streets, not previously designated, may now be considered suitable locations for stationary traders.
As we are currently reviewing our policy with respect to street trading, we would welcome comments on the suitability or otherwise of the existing designated streets and/or suggestions for streets that Council should consider designating as being suitable for street trading.
How can I comment or make a suggestion?
Comments and suggestions must be made in writing by downloading the Consultation Form and returning by email [email protected] or by post to The Licensing Team, Derry City and Strabane District Council, 98 Strand Road, Derry, BT48 7NN,
By when do I have to submit my comments or suggestions?
The closing date for receipt of comments and suggestions is Friday 30th August.
What happens next?
We will consider all comments and suggestions received in advance of any revision of the list of designated streets within the district.
