Triple Bill - Echo Echo Festival presents Tradition and Beyond

Date: 14 September 2024

Venue: Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, Waterloo House, Magazine Street, Derry, Londonderry, BT48 6HH

Triple Bill of works rooted in an evolving traditional dance practice. Performances by Sibéal Davitt and Úna Monaghan; University of Limerick Students; Aneta Dortová and William Troy

Sibéal Davitt (choreographer and performer) with Úna Monaghan (harp and electronics):
A combination of Irish traditional music, traditional and contemporary dance, and live interactive electronics. We are exploring the potential for Sibéal as a dancer to impact the sound as well as responding to it. This performance is part of an ongoing collaboration in which we consider the development of our music and dance; a mixture of fixed and improvised sound and choreography.

Short Works by the BA Irish Dance at the University of Limerick students: Orla Shannon - 4th Year; Orielle O'Donnell - 2nd year; Aisha Assad - 2nd Year
These works emerge from the 'Creative Practice' classes of the Irish Dance BA programme, which are focussed, reflective and exploratory sessions. Using approaches and tools such as deconstruction, authentic movement, and improvisation, amongst others, we facilitate an emergence of aesthetics and concepts which reveal the students' innate artistic expression, a window to the world as they see it and as it manifests upon them.

Aneta Dortová (Choreography, performance) and William Troy (Music, performance)

Using percussive dance footwork, contemporary dance, and physical theatre techniques, this piece explores the concept of opacity through movement. It features two characters with contrasting traits, each embodying a distinct physical language. All of this is spiced up by hints of sci-fi and uncanny valley.
