Derry City and Strabane District Council Christmas and New Year Service arrangements 2024
Civic Offices
The Council’s Civic Offices on Strand Road, Derry, and Derry Road, Strabane, will be closed to the public from Tuesday 24 to Monday 30 December 2024 and also on New Year’s Day 01 January 2025.
Christmas Bin Collections
Blue & Brown bin collections due to take place on Christmas Day will be lifted on Saturday 21st December.
New Year Bin Collections
Black & Brown bin collections due to take place on New Year’s Day will be lifted on Saturday 28th December.
Recycling Centres
Please note that all our Recycling Centre sites will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Christmas Eve - Tuesday, 24th December
- Pennyburn, Strahan’s Road, Strathfoyle – will close at 4.00pm.
- Glendermott Road, Eglinton, Claudy, Park, Donemana, Plumbridge, Newtownstewart, Spamont will close at 2.00pm.
Friday, 27th December 2024 – Monday, 30th December 2024:
- Pennyburn, Strahan’s Road, Strathfoyle, Glendermott Road, Claudy, Donemana, Newtownstewart will operate as normal.
- Eglinton, Park, Plumbridge, Spamont will operate as normal on Friday and Monday and be closed as normal on Saturday (28th December) and Sunday (29th December).
New Year’s Eve – Tuesday 31 December
- Pennyburn, Strahan’s Road, Strathfoyle, will close at 4.00pm.
- Glendermott Road, Eglinton, Claudy, Park, Donemana, Plumbridge, Newtownstewart, Spamont will close at 2.00pm.
New Year’s Day – All Recycling Centres will be Closed.
Council Cemeteries
All Council Cemeteries will be opened and closed as normal over the Christmas period.
Council Parks
All Council Parks will be opened and closed as normal over the Christmas period.
Street cleansing
Council Street cleaning staff will continue to work over the festive period and will be operating in the city centre right through the holiday period, including Christmas morning from 5am to 9am.
