Planning permission granted for 674 new homes
28 November 2024
Planning permission for 674 new homes in the Clooney Road area of the city has been approved by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee.
The application by South Bank Square is for a residential development comprising 674 no. dwellings (33 no. detached; 473 no. semi-detached; and 168 no. apartments), including open space and landscaping; new equipped children’s play area; bus route; SuDS Pond; and all associated site and access works.
The application site is designated as Zoned Housing Land H30 in the Derry Area Plan 2011. The development lands lie approximately 5km northeast of Derry City Centre and are accessed directly off the A2 Clooney Road Gransha Roundabout.
Elected members of the Planning Committee were unanimous in their support for the application.
The chairman of the Planning Committee, Cllr Fergal Leonard welcomed the decision.
He said: “The addition of 674 new homes is a very welcome development for the city and will help to meet the growing demand for accommodation. This development is also close to local amenities and is convenient to one of the main arterial routes to and from the city.
“The mix of houses and apartments offered in this development means they are suitable for a variety of people – from those who live alone, couples or larger families and I expect the units in the finished development to be in high demand.”
