PCSP Chair promotes home security message

8 May 2024

The Chairperson of Derry and Strabane PCSP Cllr Sandra Duffy has reiterated calls by the PSNI for householders to prioritise home security arrangements in an effort to keep burglars out.

Cllr Duffy said it was important that the public put some simple practical solutions in place to reduce the risk of burglary. The calls comes after it was revealed that from April 2023 to February 2024 there were 266 incidents of burglary reported in the Council area.

“Its important that we all step up and take on the responsibility of protecting ourselves by securing our home and personal belongings. By doing a few simple checks every day we can reduce the chance of burglary.  Make sure your alarm is working ad that you always lock your windows and doors and keep any valuables out of sight and in a safe place.  It’s also important to stay vigilant and to report anything suspicious in your community to the PSNI. We all have a duty of care to keep our communities safe and not to provide any opportunities for potential burglars.”
