Loughs Agency to champion inclusivity at North West Angling Fair
25 March 2024
The Loughs Agency are bringing a ground-breaking ‘Angling for All’ programme to this year’s North West Angling Fair.
The aim of the initiative, which is delivered by the Foyle River Catchment Outdoor Group (FROG CIC), is to make angling as accessible as possible for those groups who may have never previously had a connection with the sport.
A series of engaging and diverse workshops will take place, with the goal of providing the perfect introduction to angling, and experts will be on hand to enhance the experience for all participants.
The programme also includes workshops aimed specifically at young people, ladies, and the disabled community, underscoring the commitment of ‘Angling for All’ to be a truly inclusive initiative.
In addition, ‘Angling for All’ makes provision for those who wish to progress further on their angling journey.
Subjects such as fish and aquatic insect identification will be covered, and there will be guidance available (with the help of Freddy the Frog!) on angling equipment, tackle, fly tying, casting, fish welfare and much more.
As in previous years, an angling simulator will be on-site for those who want to test out their newly acquired fishing skills before heading out onto the riverbank.
Sharon McMahon, Loughs Agency CEO, commented: “We are delighted to bring the exceptional ‘Angling for All’ programme to this international festival of fishing at the North West Angling Fair.
“This fantastic initiative can be instrumental in encouraging women, young people and the disabled community to try their hand at angling, and with the right engagement, we can go a long way to growing the sport within our catchment areas.”
The North West Angling Fair 2024 takes place at the Melvin Sports Complex, Strabane from 6th – 7th April.
