Local construction projects shine at annual CEF Awards

Good news for a number of local companies involved in construction projects across Derry and Strabane, who scooped top prizes in the annual Construction Employers Federation Awards.
Among the projects that impressed the judging panel were the Derry City and Strabane District Council led North West Greenway Network, Pennyburn Bridge, and Culmore Greenway, which won the award for best Transport and Utilities Infrastructure Project of the Year under £10m, delivered by Northstone and FP McCann. The Newgate Arts and Culture Centre redevelopment also received the top accolade in the Social/Community Construction Project below £2m category, a project delivered by QMAC Construction and project managed by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The North West Greenway Network was supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Donegal County Council (DCC) and Sustrans NI, with significant funding from the Department for Communities.
The New Gate Arts & Culture Centre, located in The Fountain area is part of The Executive Office’s Urban Villages Initiative. The project was managed and overseen by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
A number of other local construction projects, including social housing developments, Ebrington Hotel and Ebrington Plaza, also made the shortlist in a number of categories.
The Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Lilian Seenoi Barr, extended her warm congratulations to all the teams involved in the delivery of the projects. “It’s fantastic to see these developments recognised for excellence by industry experts. These projects have been truly transformational and are already making a positive impact in our local communities.
“I want to acknowledge all the hard work that has gone in to pioneering innovative, modern and fit for purpose buildings by the project teams, and congratulate the companies who have upheld the highest standards during some very challenging times for the construction industry.”
The Construction Employers Federation Limited (CEF) is the only certified representative body for the construction industry in Northern Ireland. The Awards event was the largest in its 25-year history, with nearly 630 attendees, and took place at the Crowne Plaza in Belfast with Minister for Infrastructure, John O'Dowd MLA, as keynote speaker.
