Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Labour Market Partnership (LMP) are offering free life-changing training courses to residents within the council area.
Funded by the Department for Communities (DfC), the Derry and Strabane Labour Market Partnership offers training programmes to help people get into employment, further training courses or full-time education. Through these programmes, tutors and mentors work with trainees to build confidence, provide on-hand experience and skills development as well as delivering recognised qualifications and/or licences where necessary. Trainees’ also receive extra support and guidance in obtaining a job at the end of the course.
Covering a wide range of skill sets within the local economy, programmes being launched this September and October 2023 include HGV Lorry Drivers Licence, PCV Bus Driver Licence, Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor Qualification and Licence and Event Stewarding Courses.
A spokesperson from Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Skills Team praised the free training courses and encouraged anyone interested in the programme to get in touch with the team.
“We are committed to creating successful opportunities for residents across our business landscape in the North West, and courses like these will only enhance that offering further. These courses are free and will allow anyone who is interested in the specific areas to get their foot in the door and get out of employment, enhance their skillset and offer something to the local economy.
“We must invest in creating the inclusive conditions required for our residents to take advantage of the opportunities work will bring them and we will continue to create pathways to bring those most distant from the workplace into employment and business.”
Derry and Strabane LMP prioritises local employability and labour market issues by addressing skills imbalance, supporting the unemployed and economically inactive, as well as promoting the benefits of good work to all residents.
